'March' on to the Theaters

Grab some friends, popcorn and drinks to get ready for a new month filled with movies you don’t want to miss out on! Here are some that I predict will be favourites of many J

  1. The Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water (5 March 2015)

    Who wouldn’t know who Spongebob is? Well, be ready to be wow-ed with the animated/live action adventure comedy film, a sequel to The Spongebob Squarepants Movie back in 2004.

    With the regular television voice cast of the show with a new live-action character Antonio Banderas as Burger-Beard the Pirate.

    Why you should watch it: Spongebob Squarepants along with Patrick, Krabs, Plankton, Squigward and Sandy ripped and buff for the upcoming movie plus they will not fail at tickling your funny bones!
  2. Chappie (5 March 2015)

    Chappie, an experimental robot built and designed to learn and feel, must fight back against forces planning to take him down.

    Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire will be starring in this movie along with Hugh Jackman.

    Why you should watch it: A robot where it can feel and learn just like any human? Looking forward to see if there will be an attachment and love towards the robot Chappie as the audience!
  3. Whiplash (12 March 2015)

    An American drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle based on his experiences in the Princeton High School Studio Band with Miles Teller as a student jazz drummer who seeks the respect of an abusive teacher played by J. K. Simmons.

    Starring Oscar winning J.K Simmons took home the Best Supporting role in the most recent 87th Academy Awards alongside Miles Teller.

    Why you should watch it: Music lovers will be able to resonate with the passion of a first year jazz student playing drums aspiring to be one of the greats.
  4. Cinderella (12 March 2015)

    The story is inspired by the fairy tale Cinderella by Charles Perrault and is a live-action remake of Walt Disney's 1950 animated musical film of the same name.

    The film stars Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine (The Wicked Stepmother) with Lily James in the title role as Ella ("Cinderella"), Richard Madden as Prince Charming, Sophie McShera as Drizella, Holliday Grainger as Anastasia and Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother.

Why you should watch it: Who doesn’t love a fairytale brought to live-action? See your childhood memories come to live with this movie but with British accents. Also, you will get to see an addition of a new shorties for Frozen called Frozen Fever!

  1. Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen (19 March 2015)

    A Singaporean comedy film produced and directed by Jack Neo with its third film in the Ah Boys to Men franchise. The film negates all happenings in the predecessors and explores what might have happened should the boys have been assigned to the Naval Diving Unit.

    Starring Joshua Tan as Ken Chow, Maxi Lim, Wang Wei Liang and many more.

Why you should watch it: It is a very uplifting and funny story with some Asian humour about friendship and trials of these boys that will make your day and probably drive away those Monday blues too.

  1. Insurgent (19 March 2015)

    A sequel to the Divergent trilogy where the plot of Insurgent continues to follow Tris Prior; Following the events of the previous installment, Tris must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart, with the help from others on her side.

    Adding to the existing cast of Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Maggie Q, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and many more will be Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer and more.

    Why you should watch it: The romance between Shailene as Tris and Theo James as “Four” in this next sequel as they are on the run with some action packed scenes.
  2. Home (26 March 2015)

    ​An optimistic yet inept alien race called the Boov, led by Captain Smek invade the Earth, to hide from their mortal enemy and make it their new home. Convinced that they are doing humans a favor, they begin to relocate them to a Desert Planet, but a resourceful teenage girl, Tip, manages to avoid capture.  When on the run she is accompanied by a banished Boov named Oh, who has accidentally notified the enemy of his people's whereabouts

    This 3D computer-animated buddy comedy film stars Rihanna, Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez, and Steve Martin.

    Why you should watch it: A cute animation to look forward to especially when the cute and huggable alien is voiced by Jim Parson as Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory series.
